Hannah CROTSER Allen
Mrs. Hannah ALLEN, 86 Succumbs Saturday Mrs. Hannah Jane ALLEN, 86,
widow of the late Charles ALLEN, died at
6:10 p.m. at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Vandalia, where she had been
a resident for 18 months. Daughter of Daniel
CROTSER and Margaret DAVIS CROTSER, Hannah Jane was born Nov. 13, 1875
and had been a lifelong resident of
Fayette County. Surviving are a grandson, granddaughters.A son and
daughter are deceased. There are also four
great-grandchildren. Funeral services at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 22 in
Berry & Hohlt Funeral Home, with Dr. Archie E. Brown,
pastor of the First Baptist Church of Vandalia, officiating. Burial
in Sharon Cemetery, Sharon Township.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. Monday.

Mayna E. CROTSER Bearden
Vandalia- Mrs. Robert (Mayna E. CROTSER) BEARDEN, 74, of Vandalia died
12:05 p.m. Tuesday (June 14, 1988) in
Fayette County Hospital, Vandalia. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday
in Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia, with visitation 6 to 8
p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia. Mrs.
BEARDEN was born in Gilman City, Mo., daughter of
George and Lottie CROTSER. She was a member of First United Methodist
Church, Vandalia, Melrose Chapter of Order of
the Eastern Star, Sharon Unit and Fayette County Farm Bureau of Home
Extension. She married Robert BEARDEN Sr. in
1933. He died in 1973. Surviving are sons, daughters, seven grandchildren;
six great-grandchildren. One daughter preceded her in
death.

A Civil War Veteran Dies - HENRY CROTSER
Mr. Henry CROTSER was born in Fayette County Illinois Aug. 8, 1841.
He was united in marriage to
Miss Sarah HOLLINGSHEAD April 4, 1872. To this union were born seven
children, all dying in
infancy except two sons, Homer J. Crotser and Wm. H. Crotser. The former's
son departed this world at
the age of 22 years 7 months and 7 days. He leaves the latter son William,
one sister, Mary CUSTER of
Drewer, Colo., one brother, David C. of Vera and 5 grandchildren, Myrle,
Millard, Harold, Floyd and
Elva Crotser of Vera and a host of friends to mourn his loss. Aug.
1, 1862 he enlisted in Co. F. 97 Illinois
regiment serving 3 years and 8 days in the civil war, during this time
he joined the First Baptist Church of
New Orleans, afterwards he united with the Protestant Methodist Church
of Vera. He was a faithful
soldier until death, his last request was for all to meet him in the
better land. He departed from this land
of sorrows Oct. 6, 1917, age 76 years 1 month and 28 days. The funeral
was conducted Sunday
afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at the Baptist Church by Bro. Syfert of Vandalia.
Interment Sharon cemetery.

Herbert CROTZER
Death Of Young Man- Herbert Crotzer died Monday evening, Dec. 2nd of
hemorrhage of the lungs. The funeral was
preached at the Baptist church Tuesday morning by Rev. O. R. Nelson,
pastor of the church, and internment was made in
Sharon cemetery north of Vera. He leaves a wife, mother, two brothers,
George and Cody, and sister, Mrs. Nannie Purtillar.
He delivered groceries for John Lilly up to April 1, when his failing
health compelled him to quit active work. He was on the
streets Saturday but Monday evening had a hemorrhage from which he
died.

Mrs. Josie Crotser, 75, of Vandalia died 3:15 a.m. Thursday, Fayette
County Hospital, Vandalia; born Vera; member of
the Pentecostal Church, the Royal Neighbors of America in Vandalia;
married; leaves sons, daughters, brothers, sister,
14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; services 2 p.m. Saturday,
Berry- Hohlt Funeral Home, Vandalia; burial Fairlawn

DAVID CAMPBELL CROTSER
Old Sharon Resident Died Sunday Evening David Campbell CROTSER, familiarly
known as "Cam" Crotser, died at the
home of his daughter, Mrs. W.E. Denton, northwest of Vandalia Sunday
evening, March 14, 1920, at 4:30 o'clock. His death
was due to a catarrhal condition of the throat, stomach and bowels
from which he had been a sufferer for more than three
months. His funeral occurred at Vera at 11 o'clock Wednesday forenoon.
The interment was at Sharon cemetery. The
deceased was born in Sharon township 69 years ago on last September
the 22nd. He had lived in that township all of his life
and from maturity was engaged in farming. His wife, who was Samantha
HOLLINGSHEAD before their marriage, died
thirty-eight years ago. He is survived by one son, who came from Cherryvale,
Kans., to attend the funeral, and by one
sister, Mr. Crotser was a Christian man, a member of the Methodist
church and was considered by all who knew him as
an honest, highly respected citizen.

Nannie L. CROTSER Jackson
Mrs. Charles (Nannie L. Crotser) Jackson, 97, of Decatur died 2:45 p.m.
in her home. Services will be 2:30 p.m. Monday in
Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home, with visitation
4 to 6 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Long Point
Cemetery, Niantic. Memorials: People's Church of God. Mrs. Jackson
was born in Vera, daughter of Gilbert and Nancy
Crotser. She was a member of the People's Church of God. She married
Charles S. Jackson in 1911. He died in 1969.
Surviving is her sister.

CODY CROTSER, Retired Wabash Man Dies at 66 Cody "Charlie" CROTSER,
66, an employee of the Wabash
locomotive shops here for the past 26 years, died yeaterday afternoon
in the Wabash Employes' hospital after an illness of
several months. Mr. Crotser, who worked as an electric crane operator,
retired from active duty in January. He made his
home at 1821 East Main street. He was born July 20, 1874 near Vera,
Fayette county, and moved to Decatur in 1907. He
leaves his wife, a step-son, a son, a sister, and two brothers, Funeral
services for Mr. Crotser, who was a member of the
Brother- hood of American Railway Employees and the International Electrical
Worker's Union, will be held at 1:30 p.m.
in the Moran chapel. Burial will be at Vandalia. Friends may call at
the chapel after 7 p.m. today.

Rites 2:30 Thursday For Lena Crotser Funeral services for Mrs. Lena
Rivers Crotser, who died at 3 a.m. Wednesday in
her home, 1021 East William street, will be conducted at 2:30 p.m.
Thursday in the Moran & Sons funeral home with burial in
Graceland cemetery. Born Feb. 21, 1873 in Ramsey, Lena Trueblood was
married to Perry ARTHURS. Following his death
she was married to Cody CROTSER, who died in August 1940. Mrs. Crotser,
who came to Decatur from Vandalia in her
youth, was a member of the Seventh Street Christian church, Royal Neighbors
and Order of Pocahontas. Mrs. Crotser leaves
a son, two grandsons, and three brothers. The Hiawatha council No.
67 of the degree of Pocahontas will meet at the Knights
of Columbus hall at 1:30 p.m. today and will attend Mrs. Crotser's
funeral at the Moran & Sons funeral home. Members of
the Daughters of Union Veterans, tent 70, will also attend the funeral.
They will meet at the funeral home at 2 p.m.

QUINCY VAN CLEVE CROTSER
Quincy Van Cleve CROTSER, son of Daniel and Margaret Crotser, was born
June 1, 1885, and died April 25, 1910,
aged 24 years, 9 months, and 24 days. He was a loyal brother, and a
loving, dutiful son and by his pleasant manner won a
large circle of friends. He was a patient sufferer for more than a
year but was anxious to go and be with his sister who
preceded him about two weeks ago. A few days ago he expressed his faith
in Christ as his Savior. He leaves to mourn his
departure, his parents, one sister, and four brothers. The funeral
services were conducted at the home of his parents at ten
o'clock Tuesday morning by Eld. W. N. Babb, Interment in the Sharon
cemetery.

Lola M. BRAZLE Crotser
Lola M. Crotser, 81, mother of former Herald Whig general manager, F.
Max Crotser, died at 2:15 a.m. Monday,
September 19, 1994, in Brighton Pavilion. She was formerly of Vandalia.
Born February 13, 1913 in Brownstown, Mrs.
Crotser was a daughter of Fred and Lula Griffith BRAZLE. She married
Charles F. Crotser in Vandalia. He died
November 19, 1972.
Mrs. Crotser worked for many years as a waitress and also in the Vandalia
Shoe Factory. She was a member of the First
Christian Church in Vandalia. Survivors include a son, a daughter,
a brother, seven grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
Mrs. Crotser was preceded in death by four sisters, Nola HEBERN, Irene
DIECKMAN, Lois GRANDFIELD and Esther
BLATHERWICK; and five brothers, Cecil, Loren, Merlin, Bob and Milas.
Graveside services will be conducted at Noon
Thursday in Liberty Church Cemetery in Brownstown by the Rev. John
Koch. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. at the Hansen
Spear Funeral Home in Quincy and 11 to Noon Thursday at the Cemetery.

NANCY JANE JOHNSON
(wife of Gilbert Crotser)
Nancy J. (JOHNSON) CROTZER
Mrs. Nancy Jane Crotzer died at her home near Vera Monday, aged 50 years,
4 months and 10 days. Her funeral was
conducted Tuesday by Rev. Edwin Kitt, the Hagarstown minister. Nancy
Jane JOHNSON was born in Annapolis, Crawford
county, Ill., May 5th, 1866. In 1883 she was married to Dulgar Doolittle.
To this union one child was born, Edward
DOOLITTLE. In the year 1887 she was again united in marriage, this
time to Gilbert CROTSER, who died ten years ago. To
this union were born ten children, three of whom died in infancy. Those
surviving are George of Vandalia, Mrs. Nancy
Jackson of Niantic, Ill., Fred of Vera, Mrs. May Beckham of Vera, Charlie,
Frank and Julia at home. Besides the children she
leaves one brother, Wilson Johnson, of Vera, one sister, Mrs. Sarah
Johnson of Decatur, also six grandchildren, six nieces and
three nephews, and a host of friends and neighbors who mourn her loss.

Eugene E. CROTSER
Decatur- Eugene E. CROTSER, 76, of Decatur, passed away 6:05 p.m. Wednesday
(April 7, 1993) in his residence. Mass
of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday in St. Thomas Catholic Church.
Visitation 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in J. J. Moran &
Sons Funeral Home with a 7:45 p.m. parish prayer service. Burial will
be in Mount Gilead Cemetery with military rites. Mr.
Crotser was born March 8, 1917 in Vera, the son of Edward and Bertha
BOLT Crotser. He was a machine operator for
Illinois Central Railroad for 30 years. He was also a veteran of World
War II serving in the US Navy. He was a member of
VFW Post 99 and St. Thomas Catholic Church. Surviving are his wife,
sons, daughter, sisters, grandsons, granddaughters,
seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded
in death by his parents and three grandchildren.

MURVIL CROTSER
MURVIL CROTSER DROWNED SUNDAY (July 26, 1914)
Murvil Crotser, age 21, was drowned in the Verdigris river Sunday morning
about 7:45 o'clock. The accident occurred at the
Cherryvale pump station in a deep hole about fifty yards below the
dam. The was taken to town to the Logan Undertaking
parlor, where they remained until Monday morning when they were removed
to the Crotser home, awaiting the arrival of
relatives.
Mr. Crotser was a young married man and is survived by a wife, and
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Crotser, two sisters, Mrs.
John Bauer, and Miss Bulah Crotser, and one brother, Pearl Crotser,
all of this city. Mr. Crotser was well and favorably
known here. He was employed at the Mutchler and Welser Bottling Works
at the time of his death and formerly delivered for
the Cold Storage Meat Market.
Interment was made in Fairview cemetery Wednesday at 3 o'clock. The
Journal extends sympathy to bereaved relatives.

Frank "Tom" CROTSER, 73, of Vandalia died 1:30 in St. Joseph Hospital,
Breese. Funeral services will
be 1:30 in Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia, with visitation after 4 p.m.
Burial will be in Sharon Cemetery,
near Vera. Survivors include Mrs. Nannie Jackson and Mrs. Julia McVey,
both of Decatur.

Brownstown- Flossie Kistler CROTSER, 82, of rural Brownstown died 2:52
p.m. Wednesday (Dec. 25, 1985) in Fayette
County Hospital Long Term Care, Vandalia. Services will be 1:30 p.m.
Saturday in Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia, with
visitation 6 to 9 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Griffith Cemetery,
rural Brownstown. Memorials: Griffith Cemetery Association,
in care of Hubert Griffith. She was born in Otego Township, Fayette
County, daughter of Clement and Minnie KISTLER. She
was retired employee of Vandalia Laundry, a member of Four Mile Christian
Church and Royal Neighbors of America. She
married Tom CROTSER. They were divorced. Surviving are her son, daughters,
eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. One
brother preceded her in death.

CHARLES CROTSER
Charles Crotser, 88, of Centerville, Ind., formerly of Fairview Heights,
died Wednesday, May 18, 1988 at Reid Memorial Hospital in Richmond,
Ind. He was a retired foreman for Illinois Inter-Urban Water Company
where he worked for 35 years; member of Gospel Assembly Church in St.
Louis and International Laborers Union Local 100 in Caseyville.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Hertha R. nee Thomas, Crotser,
a daughter, Edith Blumer in 1980 and a number of brothers and sisters.
Surviving are two sisters, Julia McVey and Nannie Jackson, both of
Decatur, Ill; dear brother-in-law six grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren;
ten great great grandchildren.
Funeral services at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the Kassly Colonial Chapel
in Fairview Heights. Internment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Fairview
Heights.
Friends may call after 3 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home.

MRS. Hertha (GINSLER) Thomas Crotser
Mrs. Hertha Crotser, 80, of 9771 Ridge Heights Rd., Fairview Heights,
died Sunday at Memorial Hospital, Belleville.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Klassly Colonial Mortuary,
Fairview Heights. Friends may call after 7 p.m.
today.
She leaves her husband, a daughter a sister. She was a member of the
Gospel Assembly Church, St. Louis.

Jennie PERTILLAR
SICK LESS THAN THREE DAYS
Jennie Pertillar, aged 16, daughter of Mrs. Nan Pertillar, died Tuesday
morning at 4:30 o'clock at the home of her
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Crotser, in the south part of town.
The girl had only been sick since Saturday noon and the
cause of her death was pronounced by the attending physician to be
lagrippe and acute tonsilitis. She was employed at the
paper mill and worked there until Saturday noon. She went home sick
and took her bed saying that she was going to die. The
funeral was held from the home yesterday at nine o'clock and the interment
was at the Sharon graveyard.

Decatur- Eugene E. CROTSER, 76, of Decatur, passed away 6:05 p.m. Wednesday
(April 7, 1993) in his residence. Mass

Myrl M. Clark, 75, of Vandalia, died 6:10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, 1978,
in Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care Center.
Funeral services are 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia,
with visitation after 6 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will
be in Fairlawn Cemetery with the Rev. Archie Brown officiating. Mrs.
Clark was born October, 17, 1902 in Sharon Township
in Fayette County, the daughter of William H. and Nannie E. (Hall)
Crotser. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in
Vandalia and Royal Neighbors of America. Surviving are her husband;
son, brother, two grandchildren. One son, three brothers
and one sister preceded her in death.

Hattie BEAL Crotser
Hattie S. Crotser, nee Beal, 90, of Belleville, died Wednesday,
September 8, 1982 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville. She was a member
of the
Edgemont Bible Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, George
Crotser. She is survived by a niece.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 15, at the Kurrus
Funeral Home in Belleville. Internment will be in Mount Hope
Cemetery. Visitation after 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 18, at the
funeral home.

Henry Willis "Hank" DENTON
VERA - Henry Willis "Hank" Denton, 69, of Vera died 8:44 a.m. Monday
(Jan. 9, 1989) in his home. Services will be 1:30
p.m. Wednesday in Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia, with visitation 6
to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Burial with military rites will be in
Sharon Cemetery, rural Ramsey. Memorials: Fayette County Heart Fund.
Mr. Denton was born in Fayette County, son of Sam and Faye Denton. He
was a retired contractor, member of Vera
Baptist Church, Sharon Township supervisor, past Republican precinct
committeeman and a World War II Navy veteran.
Surviving are his sons, daughters, brother, sister, 24 grandchildren;
two great-grandchildren. One brother, two grandchildren
and one great-grandchild preceded him in death.
