There were a total of three separate buildings used to house the legislature in the small town. The third and final capitol building was constructed in the summer of 1836 using private funds and materials from the dismantled second building. The structure was erected in order to counteract the growing movement in 1835 and 1836 to change the location of the government.
Only Eve and four of her children are listed in the 1835 Illinois
State Census for the County. Two females and 2 males are with her at this
time. Oldest son, Daniel, had already married and was listed separately
with his family.
Daniel married Nancy Owens on April 26, 1825, while
the family still lived in North Carolina. She was the daughter of Ralph
and Nancy Owens. Below is a copy of the marriage bond for Daniel and Nancy.
This couple first settled in Indiana. While residing there, they had
at least three children; Mary, born circa 1830, Robert, also about 1830,
and George W., born August 19, 1833. They then moved on to Fayette County
and are found in the 1835 State Census. Daniel and Nancy went on to have
at least five more children; John, born about 1835, Mary Catherine, born
around 1837, Daniel, Jr., February 14, 1842, Maria Elizabeth, December
8, 1842, and William, born about 1848.
Son Robert married Marianne C. Padon on September 10, 1846. They
had 8 children; William D., born December 12, 1849, Robert Frank, about
1851, Frank, 1853, Isabella A., March 21, 1854, Dean Swift, 1856, Ebenezer
E., 1858, Duncan Sturgiss, October 1859, and Mary, born 1870.
